Israel, Saudi Arabia, North Korea… these countries which see Trump's return to power as a godsend

In the eyes of many leaders, the potential election of Donald Trump as president of the United States is seen as a threat to the world order. Conversely, certain countries, more than seduced by his mandate or the prospects that a second would open up for them, are impatiently awaiting the Republican's return.

Two days before the American presidential election, which will be held this Tuesday, November 5, all eyes are on the United States. If many countries see the potential victory of the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, as a threat to the world order, others are impatiently awaiting his return, four years after the end of a first term which had seduced them.

Israelis openly pro-Trump

Unlike American Jews – around 70% of whom prefer to give their vote to Kamala Harris – Israelis do not hesitate to display their pro-Trump position. According to an opinion survey for the daily Maarivalmost two thirds of them (62%) say they support the Republican candidate against the Democrat, who only obtains 20% support.

A positioning which is not so surprising, when we remember the measures taken by the Trump administration in favor of the Jewish state. Starting with the transfer of the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May 2019 – a decision which recognized the American refusal of a two-state solution by unilaterally recognizing the holy city as the capital of Israel .

The same year, the billionaire also recognized Israel's sovereignty over the part of the Golan Heights conquered from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967, then annexed in 1981. An annexation which had, until then, not been never been recognized by the international community. As a thank you, a new colony soberly nicknamed “Trump Heights” was inaugurated in this disputed region.

Finally, in 2020, Donald Trump oversaw the signing of the Abraham Accords, providing for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates on the one hand, and Israel and Bahrain on the other. Such agreements were subsequently concluded by Israel with Morocco and Sudan.

So much progress for Israel which justifies the fact that today, the population is largely in favor of the return of the billionaire to the White House. Especially since her rival, Kamala Harris, tends to be perceived as hostile towards Israel, particularly since the Hamas offensive of October 7, 2023. During the Democratic convention, in August 2024, the candidate has indeed shown her support for the Palestinian cause, declaring that she would not remain “silent” if this tragedy continued in the Gaza Strip which “breaks the heart”.

She also implicitly accused the Israeli Prime Minister of being the main obstacle to ending the crisis. The opportunity, for the Donald Trump and J.-D. Vance – openly pro-Israel – to position himself as a great defender of the Jewish state.

Putin's Russia, half-fig, half-Trump

We can no longer count the number of times Donald Trump has complained about the billions of dollars in American military aid paid to Ukraine. Let us recall that following the announcement of a new envelope of 375 million dollars, the Republican candidate was particularly acerbic towards the Ukrainian head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky. “Every time he came to our country, he left with 60 billion dollars, I think he is the best salesman on the planet”he quipped during a campaign meeting on September 25.

Since the start of Russia's invasion of the country in February 2022, the country has been kyiv's main support, with a total of 75.1 billion euros in aid, both military, financial and humanitarian. In comparison, for the European Union, this figure is 39.4 billion, and 4.4 billion for , according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. So, as Donald Trump likes to repeat: in the event of victory, he will give nothing “unless Europe starts to equalize.”

The Republican candidate has always shown admiration for the head of the Kremlin, whom he has repeatedly praised « l’intelligence »even the ” genius “. However, as the presidential election approaches, Vladimir Putin's support for him is not obvious. Last September, the latter sarcastically suggested that he would prefer to see Kamala Harris enter the White House, saying that her “laughter so expressive and contagious” watch “that everything is fine with her.”

A position which immediately made Donald Trump react, the latter admitting to having been “offended” by the words of the Russian president, during a rally in the disputed state of Wisconsin. Before assuming a bluff from Vladimir Putin: “Did he say it with a smile?” I think he may have said that while smiling.”then surmised the Republican candidate.

For North Korea, hopes for new negotiations

Since 2020, relations between the United States and North Korea appear to be at a standstill. Will Donald Trump be the one who, once again, will relaunch discussions? In any case, this is what a former North Korean diplomat, Ri il Gyu, told the Reuters agency last August. “Kim Jong-un wants to reopen nuclear negotiations with the United States if Donald Trump is re-elected as president”he maintains. The objective, according to the former diplomat: to lift sanctions on the country's arms programs, cancel its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism and obtain economic aid.

As a reminder, in June 2019, Donald Trump was the first American president to set foot on North Korean lands, during a meeting with his counterpart Kim Jong-un. It was the third time that the two men met, after a meeting in Singapore, in June 2018, then in Hanoi (Vietnam) in February 2019. At that time, the Trump administration demanded that Pyongyang definitively renounce its nuclear program before considering a lifting of international sanctions, which the country has always refused.

The failure of the negotiations was also noted 6 months later, in January 2020. “The United States is making demands contrary to the fundamental interests of our state and engaging in thuggish behavior”Kim Jong-un declared before the central committee of his Workers' Party. However, not a single criticism of Donald Trump appeared in his speech.

More recently, in July, the Republican candidate assured that the North Korean leader would like him to “come back”. And to continue: “I think he misses me, if you must know.” I get along well with him. »

Saudi Arabia, Trump's kingdom?

During his term in office, Donald Trump cultivated very close ties with Saudi Arabia, choosing Riyadh as the destination for his first trip abroad. In 2018, his administration even defended Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) who, according to US intelligence agencies, ordered the brutal murder of US-based Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi.

“The United States intends to remain an steadfast partner of Saudi Arabia, to ensure the interests of our country, Israel and our other partners in the region”the former American president insisted in a press release. Since then, his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has been the subject of a Democratic-sponsored investigation for launching a private equity firm that allegedly received $2 billion from a fund controlled by MBS.

But the Trump family's ties to Saudi Arabia went far beyond his time in office. As evidence of this, the construction of a tower, called the “Trump Tower”, in the coastal city of Jeddah. This agreement was concluded last July between the Trump Organization and a Saudi real estate developer, Dar Global.

“We are excited to expand our footprint in the Middle East and bring the Trump standard of luxury to the region through our long-standing relationship with Dar Global”Eric Trump, the former president's son and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said in a statement announcing the project.

Argentina… or rather its leader, Javier Milei

The famous MAGA is their common mantra, in reference to the Trumpist slogan “ Make America great again », which the Republican candidate repeatedly insists and which works just as well for Argentina. Between Donald Trump and Javier Milei, the union was sealed from the start.

Barely elected to the presidency of Argentina in 2023, the economist, who describes himself as libertarian, ultraliberal and“anarcho-capitalist” received the support of the American billionaire. “I am very proud of you. You will transform your country and make Argentina great again.”he published on his Truth Social network.

No wonder if, even today, a parallel is drawn between these politicians, both lovers of provocative statements (and mid-length haircuts). Last September, during an interview with the LN + channel, Javier Milei claimed to be “one of the two most important politicians” in the world, with Donald Trump. Just that.
