White march for Emilio, the 14-year-old beaten to death

Several hundred people took part in a white march on Sunday to pay tribute to the teenager found dead on October 24 in the family home in Alénya, in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Leaving the town hall, the participants, including the father and stepmother of Emilio, the deceased boy, went to the house to pay their respects and place flowers on the gate, as well as a portrait of the young 14 years old.

Very moved, friends of the teenager spoke in front of his home to evoke his memory and thank the participants “in the name of Emilio”.

Camille, 15, “Emilio’s childhood friend”, explained to AFP that she wanted to “pay him a last tribute”. “We didn’t see each other that often anymore. I’m coming back to see him one last time,” she said.

For Isabelle Galanti, mother of Emilio’s former friends, it was “the least we could do” to “say we love him.”

“There aren’t too many words to describe this kind of situation,” she added.

The boy’s stepfather was indicted for murder of a 15-year-old minor and imprisoned on Thursday. Justice had made the same decision on Monday with regard to Emilio’s mother, who was a childminder in the neighboring town of Saint-Cyprien, still in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

The couple was arrested in Val-d’Oise where they had fled.

The case began with the revelations of a friend of the father-in-law, who came to the police station to report that the 42-year-old man had confided to him “that he had “smoked” his son-in-law”.

The autopsy carried out on Monday October 28 at the University Hospital confirmed that a multitude of violent blows were inflicted on the victim’s entire body.
