part of Andalusia on red alert for further rain on Sunday

The Spanish province of Almeria has been placed on red alert for “torrential” rains expected this Sunday, November 3, just a few days after the serious floods which affected the south-east of the country.

The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet placed part of Andalusia, in the south of the country, on red alert this Sunday, November 3, for heavy rains expected during the day, just a few days after the deadly floods which affected the south -east of the country.

The province of Almeria, in eastern Andalusia, is on red rain alert. Aemet expects “torrential rains” likely to cause “floods” and recommends that residents only travel if “strictly necessary”. This precipitation should stop around 6 p.m.

The agency has also issued a new orange alert for heavy rains in the Valencia region, particularly in the Valencian metropolitan area, where 100 liters of water per square meter (i.e. 10 cm) could fall.

At least 213 dead

These new alerts come as King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visit the southeast of Spain on Sunday, after floods of unprecedented violence which left at least 213 dead.

Five days after this bad weather, which caused the worst natural disaster in the country's history according to the government, searches continue to find the missing, clear the roads and restore the infrastructure destroyed by the torrents of mud.
