In the 2025 finance bill, Michel Barnier's government plans to increase the tax on final consumption of electricity (TICPE). So forget the 10 to 15% reduction in electricity bills when they have increased by 40% over the last two years. At the same time, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon announced on October 13 that there would be no increase in gas taxes.

Guest of the Grand Rendez-vous Europe 1/CNews/Les Echos, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, claims to be “unfavorable to the increase in taxation on energy in general”. But at the same time, she declares that she has “chosen her side”: “It is better to support electricity than gas. Electricity which is produced in France, which creates employment, which has economic benefits in France and who is sovereign, who is decarbonized”.

Unlike gas which is “a foreign product”: “We are dependent on imports from geographical areas, such as Russia, the United States or the Middle East. Which is not the case for electricity. So taxing electricity more than gas is counterproductive economically and ecologically.”
