A young man seriously injured by bullets during a shooting in front of a nightclub near Valence on the night of Thursday to Friday has died, the Privas prosecutor's office (Ardèche) said on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
“He died early in the afternoon” on Saturday, deputy prosecutor Charlotte Cerna told AFP.
Aged 22, the young man from Romans-sur-Isère was shot in the head and transported in absolute emergency to the Valence hospital center with a life-threatening prognosis.
Two other people, more lightly injured, remain hospitalized, said Ms. Cerna, adding that the investigation “continues” and has not given rise to any arrests at this stage.
A shooting believed to be linked to drug trafficking
The shooting, which is believed to be linked to drug trafficking, broke out around 2:30 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of a nightclub in Saint-Péray (Ardèche), west of Valence, according to a police source.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the perpetrator of the shots was dressed in black and had his face hidden under a hood. He fired a handgun before fleeing.
“Destroyed again”
The Rugby Club Romans-Péage (RCRP), of which the deceased young man was a member, paid tribute to him on its Facebook page, saying it was “devastated again” by this death “in atrocious circumstances”. It was also within the RCRP that young Thomas played, killed during a ball in Crépol (Drôme) in November 2023.
“#Nicolas is no more,” reacted the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère Marie-Hélène Thoraval on “, she lamented.
