Faced with an established Saint-Etienne team, Liam Rosenior paid tribute to the Greens and the block put in place by Olivier Dall'Oglio and his players during ASSE's victory against Strasbourg (2-0).
Liam Rosenior : “On this meeting we were put in difficulty with their low block. We had difficulty giving them problems and breaking down this very compact team. Their low block posed a problem for us, we had a hard time worrying about them. We must give credit to the match produced by Saint-Étienne. We conceded a first goal from a corner and on the second we were down to ten with an injured player off the field. We concede the goal on his side. At the end of the match, we brought in a second attacker to try to push but we were unable to come back. We did not manage to find the keys against Saint-Étienne despite good possession.
This is the first time this season that we come across a team that completely abandons the ball and leaves us in control of the match. We had opportunities in the first half but in the last thirty meters, we were not precise enough. We may come across this type of team more and more often. It's up to us to adapt to them, we will have to find solutions. I think we have gained respect for what we have shown since the start of the season in the game but the teams will adapt to that.
In this match, we had warned the players of a possibility of a five-man defense even if ASSE has never played like that this season. In the end, they didn't change anything. We can't always have all the answers before the match, we have to adapt when the opposition offers us different things.”
