The previous night, during Halloween evening, some young people had already committed acts of gratuitous violence, setting fire to parked cars and trash cans placed in the middle of the road. The police had already had to intervene and in this neighborhood, three young minors had been arrested and placed in police custody. The town hall of Rillieux-la-Pape immediately threatened the families of those arrested with being deprived of social assistance.

One wonders if the new series of urban violence which broke out last night is not a form of retaliation by the young people of the neighborhood, after the arrests and threats of the mayor” asks a prefectural source. A little before 10 p.m., around twenty individuals, once again hooded and dressed in black, started throwing stones and then setting fire to 2 TCL buses.

The fire on TCL buses in the middle of the neighborhood led to the destruction of several private vehicles and even caused the temporary evacuation of an entire building, for safety reasons. Fortunately the fire did not spread to the homes, but it was another very turbulent evening for the residents of the neighborhood.

Dispatched to the scene at the start of this violence, the first crews of the national police were in turn stoned as soon as they arrived. One of the police officers received a projectile in the head and was evacuated to receive treatment in a state of relative emergency. Around 11 p.m. a CRS company was mobilized to support the national police, they managed to restore calm in the neighborhood, around an hour and a half after the start of the violence.

The prefect delegate for defense and security Juliette Bossart-Trignat went to the site alongside the mayor of the commune Alexandre Vincendet (Horizons). Of course, both strongly condemn these acts, as does the regional prefect, Fabienne Buccio, who communicated on X (formerly Twitter).

Yesterday, no arrests could be made but an investigation is underway to try to find the perpetrators of this urban violence. A CRS company will be kept on site at least until the end of the weekend, to ensure that the situation does not degenerate again.
