Rillieux-la-Pape plunged into chaos

Rillieux-la-Pape is once again the scene of urban violence. After two nights of unrest, the authorities decided to strengthen security by sending CRS for the entire weekend, alongside national and municipal police forces. This large-scale intervention aims to restore calm after a new increase in violence observed Friday evening.

The series of incidents began on Thursday, with burning of trash cans and cars, leading to the arrest of four minors. Events took an even more worrying turn on Friday, when two TCL buses were victims of stone throwing, before being set on fire in an ambush.

The fire quickly spread, threatening nearby homes, which required the preventive evacuation of residents to avoid any risk.

The police officers were also targeted, one of them having been injured in the face by a projectile. On site, the Prefect Delegate for Security, accompanied by Mayor Alexandre Vincendet, was able to see the extent of the damage and reaffirm the State's commitment to act firmly. “Investigations are underway to find the perpetrators, who will have to answer for their actions. The State will act firmly,” she said in a message posted on social media.

This is unfortunately not a first for Rillieux-la-Pape. Last April, a bus had already been intercepted and then set on fire in the middle of the street during previous episodes of urban violence. The prefecture then deployed the CRS 83, which made it possible to quickly restore order.

Faced with this repetition of violence, the mobilization of law enforcement for this weekend aims to deter any further escalation and to guarantee the safety of residents and property.
