Another night of urban violence in Rillieux-la-Pape, in the metropolis of Lyon. Two buses were set on fire during the night from Friday to Saturday, while the police were subjected to projectiles.
The violence began around 9 p.m. in the Velette district, as reported by BFM Lyon. Two TCL network buses were blocked and then set on fire by a group of around twenty individuals on Avenue du Général-Leclerc. A nearby apartment building was evacuated as a precaution. The residents, some of whom were panicked, were able to return to their homes a little later.
During their intervention, the police were the target of projectiles. A police officer from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) was shot in the face. He was taken to hospital in relative emergency. CRS were deployed as reinforcements in the neighborhood, shortly after 11 p.m., to restore calm.
Several amateur videos, notably showing the burned buses, were published on social networks.
“These are reprisals due to yesterday’s arrests”
Urban violence had already broken out during the night from Thursday to Friday, in Rillieux-la-Pape. The police arrested four minors who were taken into custody.
“Tonight is retaliation for yesterday’s arrests”denounced the mayor of the city, Alexandre Vincendet, to the news channel. “They want to put pressure on us to leave them alone, but that’s out of the question”.
The prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Rhône region, Fabienne Buccio, reacted to this new urban violence this Friday evening, which she “strongly condemns”in messages on X. “Reinforcements of CRS are deployed this evening in Rillieux and will be mobilized this weekend alongside the personnel of the Rhône national police, and the municipal police. Investigations are underway to find the perpetrators who will have to answer for their actions”she warns. “The State will act firmly”.
