Near Toulouse, kiwi picking is a great success with individuals looking for attractive prices

To the Cléjust organic farm, in Cazèresin the Volvestre, the harvest is coming to an end in this vast orchard of three hectares which for 20 years
offers individuals the opportunity to come and harvest the harvest themselves. At 3.20 euros per kilo, so many of you went there
that the harvest, which began on October 25, ends this Saturday, November 2 at 4:30 p.m.

“We had planned to go longer but people came in droves. They are attached to eating better. SO direct producer kiwis it interests them, and it’s certified organic. Beyond that, it's pleasant and it's a great leisure activity with the children, so they enjoy coming every year.” indicates Laurent Durieu, the manager of the Jardins du Volvestre, who this Friday, November 1, guided customers to the entrance to the orchard.

Easy to pick, kiwis keep for four to five months

Philippe, equipped with a wheelbarrow and nets, accessible for self-service next to the visitors' car park, heads towards the orchard, he explains: “It's the first time I've come. Usually I have a friend in Ariège who gets me some and then I said to myself I was going to pick up the kiwis. You just have to pull on the little branch and that's it. Then they are not very very high.” He comes to do its stock for the winter at a very attractive price : “The price is 3.20 euros per kilo, and what's more it's organic“. The friend who accompanies her comments: “In stores we see kiwis for one euro each, as if only the rich could eat them. And the poor, then? So we chose to travel to pick the kiwis.”

Kiwi will keep for up to four to five months, provided it is placed in a cool place, protected from light and placed without pressure, a bit like eggs in a box.

The Cléjust organic farm produces 50,000 kilos of this small fruit full of vitamins. The orchard is maintained by a work placement team of six to eight people. 2024, like 2023, is, according to the manager, a very good year for kiwis, but to be sure you have to let the fruit ripen for around ten days before consumption.
