The toll of the apocalyptic floods which devastated the south-east of Spain on Tuesday evening continues to rise. Thursday at 4 p.m., the emergency services announced that at least 158 people had died and that searches were continuing to find “dozens and dozens of missing people”, raising fears of a much higher toll.
Among the victims counted in the Valencia region, José Castillejo, player from the club's training center, who announced the sad news on X. “Valencia FC deeply regrets the death of José Castillejo.” A former member of the Academy, he had never managed to establish himself in the first team. But the midfielder then played in different clubs in the region, including Eldense, resident in Segunda B (3rd division).
The club based in the town of Elda indicated on Thursday, as reported by Marca, that all of the revenue collected during the match against Huesca – postponed to an unknown date – will be redistributed to the victims of the floods. Furthermore, the meeting between Valencia and Real Madrid, scheduled for Saturday and counting for the 12th day of La Liga, has also been postponed to a later date.
