Exceptional floods have left at least 205 dead in Spain, according to a latest emergency report released this Friday, November 1, 2024. In the Valencia region alone, 202 people died.
Military reinforcements were deployed this Friday in the south-east of Spain to deal with the dramatic situation and total chaos caused by these deadly floods. 500 soldiers belonging to the Military Emergency Unit (UME), a special unit intervening during natural disasters, were deployed in the region.
Spain on alert
If the sun shone this Friday in Valencia, vigilance remains required in certain areas of southern Spain. The National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that heavy rainfall will continue this weekend. Aemet has thus decreed a “red alert” (maximum risk level) in the province of Huelva, in Andalusia (southwest of the country, bordering Portugal).
For their part, the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, in the Valencia region, remained under orange alert.
