► WHO says it is “worried” about Israeli attacks on health services

The World Health Organization (WHO) is “deeply worried” attacks carried out by the Israeli army against health services in its war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, a spokesperson said on Friday (November 1).

The WHO is “truly, deeply concerned about the increase in attacks on health workers and health facilities in Lebanon, and we emphasize again and again that health care is not a target”declared Margaret Harris, spokesperson for the organization during a press briefing in Geneva.

► Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and Baalbek

The Lebanese news agency Ani reported an Israeli raid on a neighborhood of Baalbek, a large city in eastern Lebanon targeted by strikes in recent days. The strike was not preceded by a call to evacuate from the Israeli army addressed to the city's residents.

At the same time, three other strikes targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut and caused strong explosions, after a call to evacuate the area given by the Israeli army.

The Lebanese Prime Minister affirmed that « l’extension » Israeli strikes signaled “his refusal of all efforts made for a ceasefire”while American emissaries tried to negotiate an end to the violence.

“The extension, once again, of the aggression of the Israeli enemy against the Lebanese regions (…) and the fact that it has once again targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut with destructive raids, are as many “indicators which confirm its refusal of all efforts made to obtain a ceasefire”Najib Mikati said in a statement.

Four Thai nationals were killed in Israel by a rocket fired from Lebanon, Thailand's foreign minister announced.

Maris Sangiampongsa published on X that he was “deeply saddened” by the deaths near the border town of Metula on Thursday, adding that another Thai citizen was injured.
