Microsoft has done everything to explain to us that Windows 11 is much better than Windows 10we had to wait until the summer of 2024 for the latest version of the operating system to painfully exceed 30% adoption. As of September 2024, StatCounter figures indicate that Windows 10 is still installed on almost 63% of computers worldwide. However, this iteration is reaching the end of its life. Or rather at the end of support. After 10 years of good and loyal service, it will be abandoned from October 14, 2025.

Just like she did with Windows 7the Redmond firm is setting up the ESU program (Extented Security Updates). For financial reasons, it allows you to receive security updates after the official end of the OS. Only companies are entitled to it, as it is complex to upgrade an IT system to a new version. But for the first time, individuals will also have the opportunity to join.

Receiving updates for Windows 10 after end of support will cost you this amount

At the end of a blog article detailing at length the benefits of upgrading to Windows 11, we are told that the ESU program for individuals will be a option valid for one year. “Enrolled PCs will continue to receive critical and important security updates for Windows 10; however, new features, bug fixes, and technical support will no longer be available from Microsoft“, specifies the company.

If you are interested, you will have to pay $30. We don’t yet know the price in euros, but it’s a safe bet that it will be identical. The price is therefore affordable, which is good news. Registrations will be possible a little before the end of support in October 2025, or at the latest in September next year. After the planned year, you will have to use other means to benefit from the updates.
