In Guingamp, the Carrefour City store devastated by fire [Vidéo]

On the night of Thursday October 31 to Friday November 1, a fire broke out in the city center of Guingamp. The Carrefour City store, rue Edouard-Ollivro, was devastated. “The store is completely out of order,” says the mayor of Guingamp, Philippe Le Goff. Nevertheless relieved to have “avoided the worst”.

The fire started around 1 a.m. Alerted by the anti-intrusion alarm, the business manager quickly went to the site. “He called the fire brigade. He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but was quickly overwhelmed,” recalls Philippe Le Goff.

“All the houses here are next to each other, we could have had much more serious damage”

Fire confined to store

More than 60 firefighters from the Guingamp and surrounding barracks (Pommerit-le-Vicomte, Plélo, Pordic, Pontrieux, Belle-Isle-en-Terre, Bgard and Dinan) were mobilized for at least three to four hours. A relief team arrived around 6 a.m. Antoine Cloître, group leader, from the center of Belle-Isle-en-Terre: “The fire was really localized inside the store, we went through the anti-intrusion door as well as the small perpendicular alley.” The emergency services took advantage of the temporary staircase created by Guingamp Habitat for the needs of the renovation project on the Ollivro islet, in the alleyway of the town's Moulin.

The fire caused no injuries and was contained to Carrefour City. There was no evacuation. Power was cut to the street for the purposes of the intervention. “There was no spread thanks to the responsiveness of the firefighters. All the houses here are side by side, we could have had much more serious damage,” underlines Philippe Le Goff.

No impact on the Ollivro island construction site

In this building currently being renovated, as part of the vast operation to requalify the Ollivro block carried out by Guingamp Habitat, the construction site was not directly impacted by the disaster, “except for the planning of intervention,” informs Jean-Luc Daniel, the general director of the social landlord.

“The floor of the first floor of Carrefour City was hit and we were preparing to pour a slab on top. We will now have to wait for the assessments to be carried out. The impact will therefore be rather technical and on the organization of the sequence of tasks which were planned for the coming weeks,” explains the manager who hopes, however, that it will be “rapid”. The work is also continuing at the rear of the block, rue du Grand-Trotrieux.

At 9 a.m., Place du Center, the operation was “almost finished” according to Antoine Cloître. “The devices will be lifted while preserving the security perimeters of the alley and in front of the Carrefour facade. »

An investigation has been opened. The Guingamp Company called on criminal identification technicians. According to initial findings, the origin of the fire was electrical.
