Four dead wild boars found on two beaches in the bay of Saint-Brieuc

Four dead wild boars were discovered on the morning of Wednesday October 30 on two beaches of Hillion in Côtes d'Armor, Grandville beach and Bon Abri. The Saint-Brieuc Bay nature reserve was warned by a rider who noticed the presence of these dead animals on the sand. Reserve officers quickly arrived on site. Three corpses were first discovered and a kilometer further on another beach, that of a fourth animal. It is not known when they died.

Laboratory analyzes

The usual protocol was activated, that is to say that the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) took charge of the carcasses. They were transported to the Labocéa laboratory in Ploufragan, near Saint-Brieuc, where analyzes will be carried out in the coming days to find out the reasons for these deaths. We know that Grandville beach, located at the bottom of the bay, at the mouth of the coastal river Gouessant, is regularly affected by strandings of green algae. But nothing indicates at this stage that their presence is in question.

The last discovery of a wild boar corpse in the bay of Saint-Brieuc dates back to early September 2024 on Saint-Maurice beach in Morieux in the commune of Lamballe-Armor.
