DAMASCUS, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — Firefighters in northwest Syria’s coastal province of Latakia were battling a massive blaze in dense forests on Thursday, local media reported.
The fire is raging in the rural Badrousiyah area of Latakia, as strong winds and thick vegetation push the flames towards the Kasab area, near the Syrian-Turkish border.
Kasab is home to some of Syria’s largest forests, making efforts to contain the fire particularly difficult.
Additional fire crews were sent from neighboring provinces to assist, and residents in the Badrousiyah and Mushayrifa areas were evacuated.■
