The tragedy unfolded on the morning of August 25, following an altercation involving two New Caledonian women. After exchanges of insults and spitting, the situation degenerated. The suspect allegedly used a pistol with a laser sight to shoot the victim. A 28-year-old accomplice had already been arrested at the end of August and placed under judicial supervision. The alleged shooter had fled to Spain then to Algeria.
His arrest followed a red notice issued by the Toulouse public prosecutor's office. Negotiations are underway between France and Algeria concerning a possible extradition, with the Algerian justice system also considering trying him there.
