The investigations carried out by the gendarmes of the community of brigades of Tôtes/Saëns are progressing after the discovery of the body of an 87-year-old man, inside his house, the victim of a fire, on Friday October 25, 2024, rue de la Roulière (D154), in Saint-Saëns.
Asphyxiation
The autopsy established that the octogenarian's death was caused by asphyxiation, without the intervention of a third party, we learned from the Dieppe public prosecutor's office. The man therefore died accidentally, by inhaling toxic fumes or gases released by the fire.
The findings made at the scene of the incident ruled out any criminal act. The gendarmerie investigation continues, but the accidental origin of this drama seems certain.
Last house
His house of around 100 m², located overlooking rue de la Roulière, was destroyed by the blaze. It was the last residence in the village, built just before the town exit sign, towards a bridge passing over the A28.
