Lhe Standard de Liège won 3-2 after extra time against Lyra-Lierse, a D1 amateur club, during the round of 16 of the Belgian Football Cup. The Liège club did well by preventing the conversion of a visiting penalty in particular (110th).
Leandre Kuavita (16th, 1-0), Dennis Eckert Ayensa (41st, 2-2) and Aiden O’Neill (101st, 3-2) scored the Liège goals. Seppe Kil (23rd, 1-1) and Jordy Peffer (33rd, 1-2) those of Lyra.
The Rouches, sick in the championship, did not find the remedy for their ills in the Croky Cup. However, things started well for the Liégeois with the opening score of Leandre Kuavita at the end of the first quarter of an hour (16th, 0-1). But, feverish defensively, Ivan Leko’s men were then surprised twice. First it was Seppe Kil who took advantage of the largesse of the defense to equalize (23rd, 1-1) before Jordy Peffer silenced Sclessin with a nice cross shot (33rd, 1-2). Between the two, Andi Zeqiri, on a free kick, then Henry Lawrence on the rejected ball, were not far from putting Standard in control (29th).
Fortunately for the Principalities, they managed to equalize relatively quickly. Well served with a sharp pass behind the defense, Dennis Eckert Ayensa revived the Rouches just before the break (41st, 2-2). Standard was even close to taking the advantage afterwards, but the ball was saved on the line (44th). In the second half, the Liégeois pushed harder and harder, without managing to find the fault.
Forced to play overtime, Standard made the difference via Aiden O’Neill (101st, 3-2), but were still very scared afterwards. In the 110th minute, Lyra won a penalty, but Peffer saw Matthieu Epolo push back his sending.
The Union logically won in Eupen (D1B). We had to wait until the second period and a penalty converted by Promise David (59th, 0-1) who scored a second goal ten minutes later (69th, 0-2). Elton Kabangu then drove the point home (83rd, 0-3).
Oud-Heverlee Louvain qualified for the next round by defeating Seraing (D1B) 2-0. Siebe Schrijvers opened the scoring from the penalty spot (11th, 1-0). At the end of the match, William Balikwisha validated the Louvanist ticket for the next round (86th, 2-0).
