Amos Hochstein, US special envoy for the Middle East, and Brett McGurk, Biden adviser, are expected in Israel tomorrow to discuss a possible diplomatic deal regarding the northern front, as reported by i24NEWS. At the same time, CIA Director William Burns is expected to travel to Cairo in the coming days to continue negotiations on the hostage agreement.
A few days before the elections, Washington is stepping up its diplomatic pressure to obtain concrete progress. Israel maintains its demands for security guarantees in South Lebanon, including a ban on the introduction of illegal weapons into the demilitarized zone. Concerning negotiations with Hamas, two main proposals are currently on the table: the Egyptian “restricted agreement” and its Qatari equivalent.
Towards an agreement in Lebanon?
According to Sky News Arabia, sources close to Nabih Berri, speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, indicate that they are awaiting an official and definitive position from Israel regarding the cessation of military operations. Lebanese media also announce an upcoming meeting between interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
