Firefighters from Kingsey Falls and two other fire safety services fought a fire at the Cascades Forma-Pak factory on Marie-Victorin Boulevard on Tuesday morning.
The Kingsey Falls Fire Department (SSI) received the emergency call around 9:40 a.m.
The fire resulted from the breakdown of a pulp and paper machine. “The machine stopped, then the material inside overheated and ignited. The fire spread in the ventilation system, then to the roof through the ventilation ducts,” explained the director of the SSI, Yannick Desruisseaux.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was caught in the chimney and began to spread to the roof. “By the time we settled in, the fire had grown significantly, but we quickly managed to bring it under control,” said the officer.
Subsequently, the firefighters undertook the necessary checks to ensure that everything was extinguished and that there was no spread.
Around twenty firefighters, including a team from Warwick and another from Saint-Félix-de-Kingsey, were mobilized for the intervention.
The fire caused relatively significant damage, considering the shutdown of production and damage to certain fans.
An agent from the SIUCQ MRC d’Arthabaska was dispatched to the scene to provide the fighters with food to eat.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., the firefighters began to put away their equipment. The intervention was over.
