Firefighters who were urgently called to the scene a little before 5 p.m. initially thought it was a motorist who had left the road. But it was in fact a shooting which took place on the road to Avignon, in Pernes-les-Fontaine. The driver hit by the shots lost control of his vehicle. The Carpentras public prosecutor’s office has opened a blatant investigation into the charge of murder committed by an organized gang. Shooting on the RD28 in broad daylight
Several witnesses witnessed the scene on departmental road 28, between Pernes-les-Fontaine and Avignon. This Friday, October 25, around 4:30 p.m., two men were driving a white Renault Clio when a scooter approached them and shots rang out. The two-wheeled shooter(s) immediately fled.
Seriously injured in the chest, the driver of the car lost control and left the road and ended up hitting a pole on the other side of the road. The gendarmes and criminal identification technicians noted signs of shooting 200 meters from the ditch where the Clio finished its course. A scooter was discovered charred shortly after, in the neighboring town of Monteux, said the Carpentras public prosecutor’s office.
The killed driver from Carpentras
The 38-year-old driver, shot in the chest, died on the spot. It is not known if he is known to the police. According to Actu 17, the man comes from the city of Amandiers in Carpentras, a district known for its violence linked to drug trafficking.
The passenger, aged 28, was injured in the shoulder, but his life is not in danger. Was he also targeted or is he a collateral victim? The investigation will have to determine this.
