► In brief
- Android 15 is available
- Newer Google Pixels can receive the update
- Smartphones from other manufacturers will have to wait
Expected for months, the Android 15 update has finally arrived. Jealously guarded by Google until now, the latest version of the flagship OS brings a set of modifications and optimizations, without revolutionizing the interface of the smartphones concerned. And while the first rumors about the next major version are starting to leak, the deployment schedule for Vanilla Ice Cream still remains very unclear.
Priority Pixels
So of course, for several years now, a new version of Android has meant priority for Google smartphones. Logically therefore, the most recent Pixels can access the latest Android 15 update. The devices affected are therefore the following:
- Pixel 6 and rest of the range (6 Pro and 6a)
- Pixel 7 and rest of the range (7 Pro and 7a)
- Pixel 8 and rest of the range (8 Pro and 8a)
- Pixel 9 and rest of the range (9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold)
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
For these devices, if the update has not yet been done, please note that it is still available to be installed.
Some manufacturers late for the update
But if you don't have a compatible Pixel smartphone, then the rollout schedule gets murkier. Because, beyond questions of priority, another obstacle appears: compatibility by the manufacturer. So, when a version of Android is published, each manufacturer (apart from Google) must adapt its overlay to keep the device fully functional and compatible with the new features.
And while some brands have taken the lead, keeping pace with the beta versions of Android 15, this is not the case for all. However, no timetable is known to date. Based on credible hypotheses, here is the list of manufacturers likely to offer Android 15 in the coming weeks:
- Xiaomi
- Nothing
- RealMe
- Lenovo
- OnePlus
- OPPO
- Honor
There remains a big unknown, absent from this list: Samsung. The South Korean giant has not communicated on the upcoming arrival of Android 15 on its devices. Worse, the update of its One UI 7.0 overlay should not be made available before 2025, further postponing the arrival of the new version of the OS. So, if you are not on Pixel, you will have to be patient.
