Death of Michael Newman, at 68: the flagship rescuer from the series “Baywatch” died after a battle with Parkinson’s disease

Michael Newman, the actor who played sea rescuer Newman, died on Sunday October 20 at the age of 68. He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 2006.

Actor Michael Newman, star rescuer of the series Alert to Malibudied this Sunday, October 20, 2024. The announcement was made on Instagram by his friend, director Matthew Felker.

Suffering from Parkinson’s disease since 2006

According to BFMTVhe had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 2006 and was the third most recurring actor on the series behind David Hasselhoff and Jeremy Jackson.

“I knew how important this series was for him and for his life”confided Matthew Felker in his post. “I was able to see Mike before he passed away. […] Before we left him, we read him letters and played videos from friends from all walks of life, he knew he was loved. A few days later, I lost my friend. A hero, my hero. Thank you for coming into my life, Newmie, even if it was only for a short time.”he continued.

The only rescuer in the series

Born in 1957, Michael Newman was the only lifeguard to play in Alert to Malibu. He had been doing this job since the age of 10 and continued to work in parallel with the filming of the American series.

Apart fromAlert to MalibuMichael Newman also played in numerous series derived from the program but also in the film Enemy Actionreleased in 1999, with C Thomas Howell and Louis Mandylor.
