A Limburg shock at the refereeing…debatable: “He lost control of the match” – All football

The Limburg clash between KRC Genk and STVV took place in a fairly sporting manner overall, but still resulted in five yellow cards and two red cards.

The referee Lawrence Visser gave Taniguchi a decent red card in the first half, after he brought down Tolu just outside the penalty area. Serge Gumienny found the decision justified, although the referee initially whistled a penalty and only gave a yellow card. “Replacing the yellow card with a red one is harsh, but fair,” Gumienny told The Importance of Limburg.

Another crucial moment in the match was an alleged foul by Patris on Bonsu Baah just before Genk’s 2-1. Gumienny ruled it was correct not to cancel the goal.

“This kind of duel is constant on a football field. Sometimes it is whistled, sometimes not,” he explained. According to him, the referee did not need to reverse his previous decision.

In the second half, the level of refereeing deteriorated according to Gumienny. Visser started “suddenly whistling easy yellow cards”, according to him. He ruled a second yellow card to Brahimi, which was given after an obvious hit, justified. “But the first yellow card for protest was unnecessary,” he stressed. The referee appeared to be harsher than necessary in an otherwise fair match.

Despite the fair play of the match, Gumienny considered the quantity of cards distributed to be exaggerated. “In reality, it was a fair derby. So five yellow cards and two red cards are a bit too much,” he concluded.
