The SQ is investigating three suspicious deaths in the Gaspé forest

Police officers from the MRC d’, based in Matapedia, arrived on the scene around 8:30 a.m., after receiving a call reporting the discovery of inanimate bodies in a vehicle stuck in a marsh.

“These deaths are being treated as suspicious deaths. Investigators from the major crimes unit, accompanied by a forensic identification technician, attended the scene. They work with the coroner. It is an isolated area, quite far away in the forest. It’s a GPS point,” points out SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.

The cause of death has not yet been specified by the SQ. “The cause is not communicated or known at this time. We’re not there yet. That does not mean that these are three murders,” Ms. Marquis-Guy also specifies.

Brébeuf Road extends for several kilometers. It notably joins the ancient village of Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf to Nouvelle. Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf was closed in the early 1970s.

The vehicle used by the victims could be a minivan, a detail that the SQ could not precisely confirm at the conclusion of the day.

Very popular in Gaspésie, the hunt for the original rifle began on Saturday, a little before the discovery of the bodies.

The Chemin de Brébeuf is one of the many penetration routes giving access to public lands where this hunting takes place.

Nearly 26,000 moose hunting permits were granted in Gaspésie this fall, within the perimeter defined by the loop from Sainte-Flavie to Sainte-Flavie. There has been a lot of traffic in the forest since Friday afternoon.
