Can Oscar Piastri cost Lando Norris the title?
McLaren’s performances have been excellent this season. The British team is at the top of the manufacturers’ ranking and looks set to win its first title since 1998, ending two years of Red Bull domination. Lando Norris (3 wins) and Oscar Piastri (2 wins) share success within the team, but could it become a burden in the fight for the drivers’ championship? Norris is currently best placed, with 52 points behind leader Max Verstappen, while Piastri has 94 points to catch up. Both drivers are aiming for the best results every weekend, and this situation is difficult to manage for the team, which really seems capable of achieving the double this season, with only six Grand Prix.
Lando Norris was questioned at a press conference this Thursday about his duel with Max Verstappen:
“People ask every weekend if this is the one that will change anything. It could work in my favor, it could work in Max’s favor. I stay focused on what I do, I do a good job. »
“I’m happy with the way things are going. I haven’t always been happy with the end result for different reasons, but I’m happy with what we do as a team and how we work together. I am confident that if we keep our heads down and keep pushing, we can get there. »
“We can close the gap, but it’s not easy, and I need more than just finishing first while Max finishes second. But I can’t change that, so I just have to focus on myself and leave the rest to others. »
