Seven winners for the 25th edition of the Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize

« This edition of the Pernod Ricard Foundation Prize has a very special meaning, since we are celebrating 25 years ofcommitment of the foundation alongside the young French artistic scene », explains Alexandre Ricard, president of the structure. It is also special because of its outcome: for the first time, it is not one artist but all the nominees who are rewarded. Their works will be acquired and offered to the Center Pompidou, historic partner of the Prize.

For a quarter of a century already, this prize has been built around a collective exhibition designed by a guest curator, bringing together a group of artists whom the latter considers to be emblematic of the young contemporary French art scene. This year, the curator, Arlène Berceliot Courtin, brought together seven artists in “All the Messages are Emotional”, an exhibition visible at the Pernod Ricard Foundation in until October 31, 2024.

The nominees – and therefore, winners – of this edition are Clémentine Adou, Madison Bycroft, Charlotte Houette, Lenio Kaklea, HaYoung, Paul Maheke and Mona Varichon. They all come together in a multidisciplinary practice and a particular attraction to movement.

Clémentine Adou looks at political issues through processes of subtraction and recovery. Madison Bycroft is interested, through video, sculpture and performance, in writing, reading, expression and refusal. Charlotte Houette’s paintings explore strangeness and geometry, notably through moving elements integrated into the paintings. Lenio Kaklea, dancer, artist and director, is inspired by feminism and post-colonial issues, mixing choreography, text and video. HaYoung questions intermediate states and identities with video, installation, drawing and perfume. Paul Maheke explores the body as an archive, questioning memory and identity through a combination of audiovisual, drawing and performance. Finally, Mona Varichon, artist and translator, mixes photography, video and performance to address both intimacy and current events.
Antonia Scintilla, director of the Pernod Ricard Foundation, praised the artists and the curator, who “ was able to give this prize a new and inspiring face. »

Last year, the prize was awarded to the artist Eden Tinto Collins, curated by Fernanda Brener.
