Already fourth after the first three components of the event (the scratch, the tempo and the elimination race), with a total of 98 points, the Axonaise did not manage to climb further, finishing at the end of the points race with a nest egg of 107 units. Three short lengths behind the Norwegian Anita Yvonne Stenberg. It was the New Zealander Ally Wollaston who won gold (131), ahead of the British Jessica Roberts (119).

“It’s always a disappointment to finish fourth,” declared the Axonaise at the end of her race. She regretted “a lack of experience, and daring perhaps” in this combined event which is on the program of the Olympic Games. “It’s still a fourth place in a first omnium World Championship but to come so close to the podium is a disappointment. Maybe I didn’t believe it enough.” she lamented, notably suffering a fall during the elimination test.
The tricolor counter remains stuck at one medal
Despite everything, a promising start for Victoire Berteau, who will continue this Saturday with the American (6:30 p.m.), which she will compete in a duo with Marion Borras, then this Sunday (1:30 p.m.) with the points race.
The day after his bronze medal in the scratch, the first for the French delegation, Clément Petit took 11th place in the points race. As for Melvin Landerneau, he could not do better than 10th in the kilometer, where he was vice-world champion in 2022.
