The impressive images of water surging through the streets of towns in Eure-et-Loir on October 10 or those in the Loire department in recent days will not see the light of day in the Center-Val de Loire soon.
This Friday, October 18, the vigicrues site informs of an orange flood alert south of Roanne in the Loire. Going up the Loire, between Roanne and Nevers, the vigilance is yellow. A level of vigilance already in place in the south of Cher and which could appear in the coming days in Loiret.
“A flood of the Loire will indeed arrive in the coming days. A flood generated by the rains of the Cévennes episode which affected the upstream of the Loire and Allier basins”begins Fabien Pasquet, head of the hydrometry department, forecasting low water levels, high water levels and Dreal floods (General Directorate of Environment, Planning and Housing). Places where the rainfall accumulations were very significant with several red alerts in several departments.
These floods are not expected to cause flooding. “We expect peaks at the start of next week. Monday noon for Cher, Gien, Tuesday and Orléans more Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning”assures Fabien Pasquet. If we follow this logic, the peaks of the level of the Loire at Blois should be for Wednesday or Thursday. This Friday morning in Gien, the level of the Loire was barely a meter below the old bridge.

The level should start to rise this Saturday, October 19. According to vigicrues forecasts, the Loire could rise up to 2.08 meters on Monday October 20 at 2:00 a.m. “We remain at moderate levels. There is nothing exceptional”indicates the Dreal specialist. “It is likely that we will put a yellow alert on the first section, at the Loire in Gien, with all the necessary precautions. This is the first level of alert which corresponds to the first localized overflows”he continues.
We are far from being in an exceptional flood!
Fabien Pasquet, head of the hydrometry department, forecasting low water levels, high water levels and floods at Dreal.
The levels observed in Gien could be comparable to those of November 2008. “We were at four meters in Gien, and there, we should rather be around 3.60 meters. We will also be below the 2008 level in Orléans”assures Fabien Pasquet.
This Friday, yellow vigilance is required, on the Cher watercourse (Saint-Amand, Saint-Florent, Vierzon), on the Yèvre in Bourges and on the Indre near Châteauroux, but “we stay on small floods”.
In terms of weather, “Further precipitation will arrive next night. The situation should improve from Sunday. Overall, it will be drier, with more sunshine, next week”, indicates Olivier Renard, president of the Météo Center association. A boon for the soils which will finally have a little time to absorb all the rain of recent weeks.
