OL (0-2): Montemurro keeps the new clean sheet

Winner of their second Champions League match, OL Women still had some offensive difficulties. Joe Montemurro preferred to salute the solidity of his team at Wolfsburg.

From Sonia’s time Bompastorthe subject had become almost weekly. How can we succeed in making the women’s OL a war machine and put an end to chronic inefficiency? The former coach had not necessarily resolved the problem over the seasons and the question arose above all against the low blocks. With the arrival of Joe Montemurro and the first outings, we thought this inefficiency had finally been resolved. However, this is far from being the case.

Matches against Galatasaray, Dijon et WolfsburgThursday evening, brought back this specter. The OL players have the chances, that’s a fact, but they still struggle to kill these matches once and for all. “We still had the opportunities to score more, but that’s football. I also remember that we didn’t concede a goal and that we were in control at the end of the match”preferred to note Montemurro after the meeting (0-2). However, the Australian coach is well aware of this small flaw which today costs OL first place in the group.

However, the first match Fleury remains to this day the only one during which the Fenottes have conceded a minimum goal. The defense was then experimental and as if by magic, the return of Vanessa Gilles and Wendy Renard stabilized this defense. We will certainly have to wait for the meetings against the FCSunday (3 p.m.), and PSG after the break to get a real opinion of the defensive level, but in Germany, the Lyonnaises still responded despite some scares.

And when everything goes well behind, Renard can calmly go for the excess in front and open the score with a header, as was the case on Thursday evening. “It’s inspiring to work with her. We’re happy to have her with us. She’s a leader on and off the field. As a footballer, you can see the influence she has on the team. We are happy to be able to count on her in the coming years.” Time passes, but Wendie Renard is still essential to OL.
