Emmanuel Macron attacks journalists and ministers

In a press conference in Brussels on Thursday October 17, Emmanuel Macron returned to his comments concerning the creation of Israel by decision of the UNa “reminder” which had angered Benyamin Netanyahu. “Words reported truncated and distorted,” he stressed.

He had reacted earlier during this press conference to the death of Yahya Sinouar, the leader of Hamas, killed by the Israeli army.

Visibly irritated, the head of state said he was “stunned to read so many comments […] faced with comments that I would have made without asking the question of knowing what they were saying and what exactly I would have said,” he lambasted.I think I say enough about the situation in the Middle East not to need ventriloquists“, continued Emmanuel Macron.

He denounced Thursday evening a “lack of professionalism” ministers and journalists, accusing them of having “distorted” his comments on Israel. “All this is proof, basically, of a disintegration of the public debate and a lack of professionalism”, castigated the president French in Brussels.

has always stood alongside Israel”

Particularly upset, Emmanuel Macron pointed the finger at “ministers” who “repeated distorted comments”, “journalists who repeated them and commentators who did not focus on the reality and truth of such comments”.

“When I have something to say, I make a press release or a press conference. That’s ethics. There are no others,” he said.

On October 15, according to participants, Emmanuel Macron told his ministers that Benyamin Netanyahu “must not free himself from UN decisions”, and “not forget that his country was created by a decision of the UN”. An allusion to the vote in November 1947 by the United Nations General Assembly of the plan to divide Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state.

This reported declaration on the creation of the State of Israel had triggered a major controversy, with a vitriolic press release from Benjamin Netanyahu, the indignation of Jewish institutions in France and part of the political class.

During the press conference in Brussels on Thursday October 17, the French head of state noted that France has “never defaulted” on the State of Israelensuring that successive governments and himself had always “fought against all forms of anti-Semitism”.

Emmanuel Macron also added that there is no ambiguity: “France has always stood alongside Israel.” “This commitment remains, as we have shown again this year by participating in the defense of Israel” in the face of attacks from Iran and the Houthis, he stressed.
