Emergency services were mobilized shortly before 1 p.m. for a fire in a six-unit building on rue des Prairies, near the intersection of rue Mathieu-Jobin. The building was evacuated, but Trois-Rivières police confirm that a person is missing.

Neighbors tried to help a lady, according to a testimony shared on social networks.

Around 2:15 p.m., firefighters were still dousing the building, but the fire appeared to be under control. The building is a total loss, according to police.

The investigation into the causes of the fire had not been entrusted to the police at the time of writing.

Busy day for firefighters

A first call was received by emergency services shortly before 9 a.m. for a fire in a three-story apartment building on Sainte-Julie Street.

“It was a fire in an apartment. The first team on scene had to evacuate a victim who was on the floor,” explains Ian L’Archevêque, head of operations for the Fire Safety Department of the City of Trois-Rivières.

The person was then transported to hospital, but he was conscious, specifies Mr. L’Archevêque.

Residents of the building were all evacuated as a precaution. Around ten people were taken care of by the Red Cross.

Then, around 10:45 a.m., another fire was reported in the east of the city, on the grounds of a recreational vehicle storage site on rue Jérôme-Hamel. Two motorhomes were on fire when the firefighters arrived, and two others suffered damage due to this fire, indicates Mr. L’Archevêque.

“Four barracks responded to the call, plus the chief. We had to prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles,” he says.

No buildings were affected by this fire, which also produced a significant plume of smoke, visible as far as Highway 40, in Trois-Rivières-Ouest.

Witnesses reported News writer having heard explosions, information that firefighters could not confirm.
