Samsung Galaxy S24+ or Galaxy S24 FE: which smartphone to choose? I compare the two models

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has just been released. This is Samsung’s most affordable recent high-end smartphone, even if it shows a price increase. With a 6.7-inch screen, however, it is placed directly opposite the Samsung Galaxy S24+. Having tested both models, I offer you a comparison.

A price increase for the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

After presenting its Samsung Galaxy S24 to us at the start of the year, the Korean brand has just marketed its Galaxy S24 FE, the most affordable smartphone in the range, at least in theory. It shows a price increase of €50 and is thus displayed at €749 in its 128 GB version and at €809 in 256 GB. This brings it closer to the price of the basic Galaxy S24 sold at €899 and often on sale.

However, It is especially the Galaxy S24+ that we must compare it to (sold at €1,169 in its 256 GB version), given that the Galaxy S24 FE displays, like it, a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. For the Galaxy S23 FE, we were on a 6.4-inch screen.

Supposed to be more affordable at the cost of a few sacrifices, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE ultimately displays an expensive price, which risks getting cold. However, it has several advantages, I suggest you see its characteristics in detail in this comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S24+ in order to see which smartphone suits you best.

Why choose the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE?

In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE closely resembles the Galaxy S24+ with the same placement of the cameras on the back and the presence of a glass back. We thus have a smartphone with a premium look, and very pleasant to hold. On the other hand, even if the screen borders are thinner than on the S23 FE, they remain marked and more unbalanced than on the S24+.

It is a smartphone that promises to be durable given that it has an aluminum frame, Gorilla Victus+ protection for its screen and IP68 certification, allowing it to withstand a fall up to 1, 5 meters deep for 30 minutes.

We are not left out in terms of screen with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. As for brightness, we are at 1900 nits. If it does slightly worse than the S24+, the S24 FE offers excellent display quality that is difficult to faultwhether watching videos or playing video games.

Its Exynos 2400e chip also gives it excellent gaming performance.but also for multitasking. Heating is better managed than on the S23 FE and remains reasonable. The autonomy is also correct thanks to a 4700 mAh battery and allows you to last a day of use.

As for the photo section we have:

  • A 50 Mpx main sensor (f/1.8)
  • A 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.2),
  • An 8 Mpx x3 telephoto lens (f/2.4)
  • A 10 Mpx front sensor (f/2.4)

The smartphone turns out to be quite good during the day, especially concerning the main sensor which takes superb photos with good sharpness and beautiful colors. Its ultra wide angle may be a little more difficult, especially at night, like the telephoto lens.

We thus have a smartphone that is a little more affordable than the S24+, which offers a very nice screen, excellent performance, 7 years of software updates and an overall satisfactory photo component.

Why choose the Samsung Galaxy S24+?

The Samsung Galaxy S24+ displays a more premium design, notably with thinner and better balanced screen borders. This results in a larger display area (approximately 92% compared to 88% for the S24 FE). It is also lighter: 196 grams compared to 213 grams.

Likewise, its screen has a Quad HD+ resolution (3120 x 1440 pixels) and a brightness of up to 2600 nits. In addition to offering better visibility in direct sunlight, it also benefits from better energy consumption seeing as it has an adaptive refresh rate that can go from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, where the S24 FE only alternates between 60 Hz and 120 Hz.

Et speaking of autonomy, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ also does better with its 4900 mAh battery. It is even one of the most durable smartphones currently available.

If in terms of performance, the two smartphones are generally equal, the Galaxy S24+ has the advantage in its photo aspect:

  • A 50 Mpx main sensor (f/1.8)
  • A 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.2)
  • A 10 Mpx telephoto lens (f/2.4)
  • A 12 Mpx front sensor (f/2.2)

The telephoto lens is more convincing and the smartphone also performs better at night.

In short, I recommend the Samsung Galaxy S24+ if you absolutely want to have the most durable and versatile smartphone possible in photography. In either case, both smartphones are relevant choices in the high-end segment.
