a false ceiling collapses in a museum, the Egyptian gallery closed

New blow for the Tessé museum, in (). The site was indeed the victim of a second water damage in six months, after the heavy rains which fell on the region on Wednesday October 16, 2024. A false ceiling collapsed following infiltration in the gallery Egyptian, forcing the museum to temporarily ban access, reports Bleu Maine.

Work will be undertaken and the 250 objects from the Egyptian collection, intact despite this incident, will once again be accessible to the public from October 19. However, an exceptional part of the exhibition will remain closed for some time. These are reconstructions of the tombs of Queen Nefertari, great royal wife of Pharaoh Ramses II (c. 1250 BC) and of Sennefer, governor of Thebes under Amenhotep II (c. 1420 BC). -C.).

A precedent last May

Last May, the Tessé museum suffered exactly the same damage linked to bad weather. Part of the false ceiling had fallen under the weight of the water, particularly in one of the two burial chambers in the basement, indicated Free Maine. The Egyptian gallery had been closed for a few days.
