In Martinique, the prices of more than 6,000 products will fall by 20% on average, after an agreement obtained between the State, distributors and transporters, Wednesday October 16.

After weeks of negotiations, supermarket prices should finally fall in Martinique. More than 6,000 everyday products are affected by a price drop of 20% on average. A bottle of milk sold for 1.30 euros could rise to 1.04 euros and a packet of spaghetti from 3.59 euros to 2.87 euros. Hygiene products are also part of the list. A pack of baby diapers priced at 42.65 euros could cost around 34.12 euros.

After a seventh meeting between the State, distributors and transporters, the agreement obtained is considered historic. “Between 6 500 et 7 000 products is huge. This is around 25% of total local consumption.”explains Serge Letchimy, president of the local authority of Martinique. The crisis is not over and the movement behind the mobilization on the island refused to sign the agreement, which it believes is insufficient. He calls for a reduction in prices on all food.
