Ferrari unveils new $3.9 million F80 supercar

Ferrari unveiled its new limited edition supercar on Thursday, which incorporates elements from endurance motor racing and Formula 1, and which has already sold out despite its base price of 3.6 million euros (3, 9 million dollars).

The gull-wing hybrid F80 is one of the highlights of Ferrari’s model rollout strategy, which aims to keep its wealthy customers interested as it prepares to launch its first pure-play car. electric, until now very secret, at the end of next year.

The F80 “is the car that raises the level of our range,” said Enrico Galliera, marketing and sales director, during its presentation in Maranello, Ferrari’s hometown. “It’s a car that we hope will make history for years to come.”

Ferrari’s “supercars” are special high-end models that the brand launches once a decade and which incorporate innovative technological features.

The most recent Ferrari supercar is the 2013 LaFerrari, of which the LaFerrari Aperta convertible version was launched in 2016. The first was the GTO, launched 40 years ago.

Only 799 examples of the F80 will be produced, and each of them has already been allocated to a specific customer, with the total number of requests being three times the planned production, Galliera said.

“We will have to say no to those who expect nothing from us,” he said. This model will be the most expensive road car ever offered by Ferrari.

It features a three-liter six-cylinder hybrid engine with a total output of 1,200 horsepower, racing brake pads, cutting-edge active suspension and ultra-lightweight 3D-printed metal parts, including the arms suspension.

Its two seats are not aligned, with the driver’s seat slightly in front of the passenger’s.

Although new, the F80’s engine is based on the same architecture used by Ferrari in the world endurance championship – where it won the last two editions of the 24 Hours of – and uses technologies from Formula 1.

Its maximum speed is 350 km/h.

Deliveries of the F80 will begin in the fourth quarter of next year, and production is expected to continue until the end of 2027, Ferrari’s 80th anniversary.
