Impressive images of the town center of Annonay completely flooded, “closed” and “evacuated”

“As the situation is evolving more quickly than expected, it is imperative to stay at home,” the Annonay town hall wrote on Facebook this Thursday morning. The city center of the main commune of Ardèche is completely flooded due to heavy rains which affect the department placed on red alert.

Schools and nurseries have been evacuated and “students in secondary schools are now safely confined”, specifies the municipality’s publication which invites people who cannot return home to “take refuge in the Faya gymnasium”.

The Deûme “in fury”

Traffic is strictly prohibited in the city center, seven streets have been closed, the Deûme being overflowing and being “in fury”, according to the Météo Ardèche account.

Images posted on Facebook show residents walking with water up to their waists. Other videos are circulating where we see torrents of water in the streets and submerged vehicles.

Ardèche and Haute- have been placed on red alert for floods due to “exceptional precipitation”. Nineteen departments are on orange alert, Météo- announced.
