With the same dynamics and with the same slogans as in June, the local unions of the CGT of the industrial area are calling for a rally in front of the Martigues hospital, this Friday, October 18 at 9:30 a.m.
From Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône to Istres via Port-de-Bouc, Fos-sur-Mer and Martigues, the unions – including that of the hospital – are calling to come and demand additional resources for this public service health, during the establishment’s supervisory board, which welcomes the mayors of these same municipalities.
A new meeting
According to the press release published Monday, the CGT still demands “ 90 full-time statutory jobs and 170 million additional euros to meet the needs of the population of the basin », this at a time when the debates on the Social Security financing bill for 2025 will soon begin in the National Assembly.
Several months of gatherings and questions led to a meeting between the management of the Martigues public hospital, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture in June, in particular thanks to the institutional relays of the mayors of the territory and the former deputy (PCF) of the constituency, Pierre Dharréville. But as Daniel Bretonnès, of the local CGT Union of Martigues, explains, the situation has evolved since then. “ The prefect and the director of the ARS have both changed and since then, we have had no further news even though it was planned to meet again. »
If a relaunch is in the pipeline, the unionist recalls that “ the meeting has been awaited since June. It’s October, the situation is deteriorating and we can’t wait any longer. The agents report catastrophic situations. » Like that recounted by the caregiver and CGT unionist Laure Privat in The Marseillaise of May 22, with “ the lack of staff, the work in tight flow, we no longer know where to put our patients… ».
A situation that worries workers “ and the bosses who are responsible for our health », recalls Daniel Bretonnès. “ I work at Naphthachemical. If there is an accident, I want to be treated in Martigues. It was to deal with industrial risk that the hospital was built ! “, he thunders. Once again, union unity between professions shows its relevance.
