“Distribution is worldwide”: successful baptism of fire for the Ruthenian board game Fairy Ring

In his store Le Chaudron Ludique, Fabien Tanguy presented this Saturday, October 5, the latest of his creations, the board game Fairy Ring. A sixth game created in Aveyron by the young man, and which seems to have already won over fans during its preview presentation at the Games of Geek festival.

It’s a “3 to 4 year” job which has just reached its conclusion with the launch of marketing. At the origin of this brand new board game, developed during confinement, Laurence Grenier and the Ruthenian Fabien Tanguy, manager of the Chaudron ludic store in .

The store, well known to Aveyron enthusiasts, served as the setting this Saturday for the official launch of Fairy Ring. And fans were there to try it or buy it, complete with a dedication from its creator. “Originally, remembers Fabien Tanguy, the game was inspired by Monopoly.” But through the transformations, the result of discussions with its Belgian publisher Repos production, this board game (although without a board) has changed direction.

The concept remained the same, but the final version offers players the opportunity to evolve a fairy in a setting of mushrooms, placed in the villages of each player. As she travels, the fairy pays taxes, encounters the different powers of the mushrooms which gain height (and power) as the game progresses or tries to complete challenges. “It’s a draft game,” summarizes Fabien Tanguy, “that is to say that each player has cards in hand, chooses one and moves on to the next one.”

“Invent the game in your own corner and have it tested”

The completion of a long journey, already taken several times by Fabien Tanguy, who is releasing his sixth board game with Fairy Ring. The previous one, Cubosaurs, achieved notable success, managing to make a name for itself among enthusiasts.

Little advice from the creator to people tempted by the experience of creating a board game: “The royal road is to invent the game in your corner, to have it tested by your family, your friends, in local clubs… We must then ask ourselves whether it is innovative and commercially feasible before going to meet board game publishers at trade fairs, such as the International Games Festival, which is held in in February.” .

Fairy Ring offers games of around thirty minutes for two to four players, from 8 years old. It was released in mid-September and can currently be found in specialized stores, although it is not impossible to find it in supermarkets soon. It is primarily made of wood and cardboard, with the only concession to plastic being the fairy figurines.

“The distribution is global,” explains its creator, who has already received feedback from Japan, Canada and Italy. Positive feedback, just like that of players at the Games of Geek festival, where it was presented in preview… and was able to be tested by a very informed audience.
