NICE: ORANGE warning “rain flood” and “thunderstorms”, at 8 a.m.

ORANGE weather alert “rain-flood” and “thunderstorms” from this Wednesday, October 16 at 8 a.m.

Météo has just placed the Alpes-Maritimes department on ORANGE “rain-floods and thunderstorms” alert with the event starting today at 8 a.m.

Description of the phenomenon:

Thunderstorms intensify during the morning of Wednesday and continue until mid-afternoon. This precipitation is locally intense and gives occasional accumulations of 80 to 120 mm in just a few hours under the least mobile storms, facilitating runoff. The entire department is concerned.
At the end of the day on Wednesday, the showers and thunderstorms are less severe but do not completely disappear.
The prefecture’s departmental operational center (COD) is on pre-alert, developments in the situation are being monitored very carefully by all state services.

Reminder of behavioral advice for the population:

– find out before undertaking a trip or any other external activity,
– under no circumstances go on foot or by car on a submerged path or near a watercourse. A vehicle, even a 4×4, can be swept away in 30 centimeters of water,
– keep yourself informed, follow safety instructions, care about your neighbors and take appropriate precautions,
– under no circumstances go down into the basements during the rainy period,
– preventively protect your belongings from water.

Keep yourself informed by consulting the official Météo-France sites: http://vigilance.meteofrance.com and the prefecture’s social networks @Prefet06.
