It will be visible from this Wednesday: what is the “full hunter’s moon” and how to observe it?

The full moon will begin to be visible from this Wednesday, October 16, 2024. This October supermoon is nicknamed the “full hunter’s moon.”

It succeeds the “full harvest moon”which was visible in mid-September 2024. The new full moon can be observed in the sky from this Wednesday, October 16, reports Actu.

A full moon occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are approximately aligned. The side presented by the Moon is completely illuminated, hence the name full moon, explains Futura Sciences. When the weather permits, one can be observed every 29 days.

That of this month of October 2024 is a super moon. This term is not an astronomical term and does not have a precise definition, according to The World. It was invented in 1979 by Richard Nolle, an astrologer. It is used to differentiate between average full moons and perigee full moons, i.e. when the point of the celestial body’s orbit is closest to the Earth.

“The brightest of the year”

This super moon is nicknamed the “full hunter’s moon”, according to Actubecause it can occur in October or November, during the hunting season.

According to the StarWalk astronomical guide, it would be the brightest and largest of the year. It will appear for approximately three days.

For the best experience, it is advisable to watch the full moon at sunset, when it is close to the horizon. The star will then appear slightly larger than an average full moon, also brighter and with a beautiful orange tint.
