A violent fire broke out in the parking lot of the Mercedes-Benz Davis dealership 27 located rue René Panhard in Évreux (Eure), Tuesday October 15, 2024. Informed at 5:15 a.m., the firefighters quickly went to the scene. When they arrived, several cars were on fire.

In total, 14 vehicles with thermal engines were destroyed in the disaster, which was brought under control at the end of the night by emergency services. The 22 firefighters involved first worked to stop the spread of the fire, before managing to extinguish it.

However, at 8 a.m., they were still at work. An investigation will be opened to determine the causes of the disaster. It will make it possible to establish whether it is a malfunction or a malicious act.

This incident is reminiscent of the series of concession fires which took place on the night of December 31 to January 1, 2023, also in Évreux.

Alaric Malves, secretary general of the prefecture, sub-prefect of Évreux, greets “the rapid intervention of the firefighters who were able to prevent any spread to surrounding buildings and extinguish the fire early in the morning”.

Car dealers from Évreux and surrounding communities are invited to a working meeting which will take place on Wednesday October 16, in order to advise them on strengthening the security of their sites, in the presence of the State services concerned.

“In consultation with the city of Évreux, measures are taken to strengthen everyone’s safety”writes the prefecture in a press release.
