Dacia Duster or the Dacia Bigster, which is better?

You are looking for an SUV, you were interested in the Dacia Duster, but you discovered that the Dacia Bigster is coming. If you are still undecided about the “ideal” model for your needs, you have opened the right article. Dimensions, loading capacity, engines, equipment and price: here is something to compare (on paper) the two new SUVs which take Dacia’s traditional values ​​even higher: comfort, simplicity and practicality.

Value for money? Best Duster

If the most important thing for you is to spend as little as possible when buying a car, then the Dacia Duster could be the right solution, given that the basic Essential version with the Eco-G 100 LPG/petrol engine costs 19,960 euros.

For the large Dacia Bigster, which can be ordered from January 2025, the prices have not yet been finalized, but during the presentation to the press, CEO Denis Le Vot promised a base price below 25,000 euros.

Need a lot of space? Better Bigster

The new Dacia Duster is already very spacious, with a length of 4.34 meters, a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, five seats and a trunk whose loading capacity starts at 594 liters under the rear shelf with the five seats available. The length of the load floor with the rear seats folded, i.e. from the tailgate to the front seat backs, is 1.67 meters.

For those who never have enough space and want to load an excessive amount of luggage, we recommend the Dacia Bisgster which, with a length of 4.57 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters, offers a generous trunk volume of at least 667 liters. It is therefore 73 liters more on the large Dacia, but above all a loading floor of 2.70 meters long. In short, with almost a meter longer than the Duster, no more problems loading long objects.

Garage or small parking space? Best Duster

The size of the garage or parking space is a problem that many people face, as a car that is too large may not fit or make maneuvering almost impossible.

In this regard, the Duster has a length advantage of 23 cm over the Bigster (4.34 meters versus 4.57 meters). On the other hand, in width, the parity is absolute with 1.81 meters for both, while in height, the Duster is 6 cm lower (1.65 meters compared to 1.71 meters).

Need more power, including for towing? Best Bigster

Those who still need more power, whether for hauling heavy loads, having a safety reserve in case of overtaking, or towing a trailer, may prefer the Bigster, which has a few extra horsepower over to the Duster.

Already an entry-level version, the Dacia Bigster ECO-G 140 has 40 hp more than the Duster ECO-G 100 thanks to the adoption of the 3-cylinder 1.2 instead of the 1.0 and a mild-hybrid system of 48 V for the first time associated with gasoline/LPG dual fuel.

The Bigster hybrid 155 also offers 15 hp more than the Duster hybrid 140, but also more torque (+20 Nm from the 1.6 naturally aspirated engine) and greater towing capacity. Indeed, the Bigster weighs almost 1,000 kg compared to 725 kg for the Duster full hybrid.

The new Dacia Bigster has equipment as standard or optional that the Duster does not have. These include Dacia’s first panoramic roof, which is 125 cm long and can open 35 cm on the Bigster, as well as the electrically operated tailgate or dual-zone automatic air conditioning.

Added to this are the Bigster exclusives such as 18-inch alloy wheels, hill descent cruise control (HDC) and the 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system as standard on all versions.

The Dacia Bigster trunk also has equipment specific to the Dacia range, such as the Easy Fold function which allows the rear backrests to be easily folded out of the trunk using two controls located to the right and left of the loading space. Another new feature is the 40:20:40 modularity of the rear seats with three separately folding parts and the central part which can become an armrest with drink holders.
