Murder of Lola in : her mother confides for the first time

The terrible tragedy shook and beyond on October 14, 2022. That day, young Lola was found dead in a trunk, near the building in which she lived in . The 12-year-old pre-teen was kidnapped, tortured, raped and then strangled to death by Dahbia B., an Algerian subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF). This appalling murder shook the country and plunged an entire family into utter despair.

Two years after the death of her daughter, Delphine Daviet-Ropital agreed for the first time to speak in the media. In an interview with “Figaro”, the Frenchwoman confides that she has still not returned to work, feeling incapable of doing so. Of course, she is followed by a psychologist who “helps her a lot”, but “my life will always be complicated”, she slips. Delphine Daviet-Ropital cannot talk about what happened to her child: “I don’t want to. (…) I have trouble being in reality and I do everything not to be there,” she explains.

Lola’s mother relies a lot on her son Thibault, without whom she thinks she would no longer be here. “It helps me to hold on,” assures the Frenchwoman, who moved to the north of the country. The bereaved mother also had to deal with the sudden death of her husband, from whom she was separated. Johan Davet suffered a heart attack at the age of 49, a year and a half after Lola’s murder. According to Delphine Daviet-Ropital, her ex-partner had fallen back into alcohol after the tragedy. “Unfortunately, his body didn’t hold up. We lost him from the first day,” she testifies.

The trial of Dahbia B., indicted for murder and rape, should take place in 2025. Delphine Daviet-Ropital does not name her daughter’s murderer, preferring to call her “the other”: “I’m waiting to know what “the other” will say (…). We always ask ourselves the question why. Lola’s mother concludes with a heartbreaking observation: “This lady destroyed everything. Everything I had: my daughter, my husband, our job… Everything was shattered.”
