“The FCPE of demands that private educational establishments under contract be controlled”

“The budgetary situation that I discovered is very serious”the Prime Minister was surprised on September 18! A statement that is a source of great concern for public school parents in : it sounds like the announcement of an intensification of budgetary cuts in 2025, further weakening a public school already undermined by those of 2024, while private schools continue to thrive in the capital, without any constraints.

The press recently highlighted the areas of work of the general inspectorate of education, sport and research and the inspectorate of finances which are based on a vast plan to eliminate thousands of teaching positions and the closure of hundreds of classes, painting a bleak picture for the educational future of our children.

We are experiencing a policy of impoverishment of public schools hidden behind technical arguments and administrative complexity that is illegible to most citizens.

But let’s make no mistake. In this two-tier education system, public schools are progressively and structurally impoverished, becoming less and less attractive, accelerating the flight to the private sector which is not inevitable, but the result of political choices.

Worry and distrust

This is evidenced by the column of the new delegate minister responsible for academic success and vocational education, Alexandre Portier, also a member of the Les Républicains du Rhône and ardent defender of private schools under contract, published on May 29 in Le Figaro, under the title “Can we blame private education for not having abandoned everything that made the public happy? »

It is in this context that the Federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE) Paris decided to refer the matter to the Court of Auditors, as part of its third citizen participation campaign. As users of public schools, we demand that public resources and funding be equitably distributed between private education under contract and public establishments. Parents of children enrolled in public education, we are members of the “educational community” in accordance with article L. 111.4 of the education code. We sit on the school councils and boards of directors of the establishments attended by our children and, as administrators of FCPE Paris, on the departmental council of national education of the Paris academy.
