Cycling. The Vélos d’Or unveil the list of finalists, with Pogacar, Van der Poel and Evenepoel

Winners in 2023, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and the Dutch Demi Vollering are among the finalists of this new edition, but are not among the favorites. Revealed this Monday, October 14, the 10 finalists, men and women, will know the name of the winner during the ceremony on December 6.

Two favorites that stand out

On the men’s side, the defending champion is having a great season with a second place in the Tour de . The Dutchman also won the Tour of Poland and Tirreno-Adriatico. But against him, the competition will be tough, notably with Tadej Pogacar, winner of the Tour de France, the Giro and two monuments, for a total of 25 successes. Without forgetting of course Mathieu Van der Poel, winner of the Tour of Flanders and -. If no French is present among the 10 finalists, we also find Remco Evenpoel, double Olympic champion in Paris.

For women, Demi Vollering should not keep her trophy either. Second in the Tour de France, she faces strong competition, notably in the presence of Katarzyna Niewiadoma, winner of the Tour and the Flèche-Wallonne. Among the contenders, we find Lotte Koecky, world champion for the second time in a row and winner of the Paris-Roubaix, but also Lorena Wiebes. The runner has the record for victories of the season (22). A Frenchwoman is also placed in this final top 10, with the presence of Evita Muzic, fourth at the finish of the Tour de France, fifth overall and stage winner in the Vuelta.

On December 6, other trophies will also be awarded. That of the best classic runners with the Eddy Merckx trophies, the Daniel Morelon trophy rewarding the best French runners in the different disciplines, or the Bernard Hinault trophy (best French road runners). The best Olympic runners in the world will also be awarded the Chris Hoy trophy and the best French in the Paralympics.
