A man, the tenant of the premises, was in the house at the time of the disaster. According to information collected on site, the sixty-year-old was sleeping when the fire broke out. Awakened by the smoke, he had time to escape on his own before help arrived. “We were very lucky that he woke up,” the mayor continues.

Taken care of by firefighters, the sixty-year-old, who had inhaled smoke, suffered burns to the head and one hand. He was transported, slightly injured, to the Jacques-Coeur hospital center in Bourges.

Around twenty firefighters from the Veaugues, Sancerre and Gibjoncs (Bourges) emergency centers, under the command of Lieutenant Laurent Joulin, intervened to put out the fire. The gendarmes from the Sancerre brigade community were also on site.
