a man indicted for the murder of his wife

A man in his forties was indicted on Monday for the murder of his wife, which occurred on Saturday near Brive-la-Gaillarde in Corrèze, the prosecution said.

He was presented before the criminal investigation unit and his provisional detention was requested.

The suspect, who himself had called the gendarmerie to report himself, was arrested without incident in front of his home in Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche, the Brive-la-Gaillarde public prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

The victim was “discovered unconscious on the kitchen floor”, according to the same source.

“She died from various blows inflicted on her. The use of a weapon was ruled out,” said prosecutor Antoine Billebeaud, quoted by the daily La Montagne.

In police custody, the husband admitted to being the perpetrator of the beatings against his wife. “Nevertheless, he does not explain how he could have lost his calm. He does not explain his outburst of violence,” added the prosecutor.

According to La Montagne, the couple had three children.

On average, a feminicide occurs every three days in . According to the Ministry of Justice, there were 94 in 2023, compared to 118 in 2022.
